Spring 2012 marks a re-orientation for LECM. LECM has transitioned from a campus based ministry to a parish based one connected to the Church of the Advocate. This means greater opportunities for our campus ministry. Greater opportunity for service. Greater opportunity for worship. And greater opportunity to share our faith with others. This is an exciting time.

So in addition to LECM being a ministry of the Episcopal Diocese and the Lutheran Synod it is offered in conjunction with The Church of the Advocate located at 18th and Diamond. The Advocate is a historical congregation known for outreach and social justice. The Advocate advocates for the poor, the opposed and the marginalized and offers programs that speaks to the needs of people in the community which now includes the University.

LECM will continue to meet in the Student Center for most activities but we also have a place to gather for a church service upon occasion and to enjoy home cooked meals! LECM continues as an ecumenical ministry that welcomes everyone regardless. We aim to model the radical hospitality offered by Christ.

As the new chaplain I am very excited about what lies ahead of us. I envision a student organization that explores faith matters in fresh and creative ways, enjoys fellowship, serve others and have fun. I invite you to become involved and make LECM a part of your college experience.

Welcome! Welcome to college! Welcome to Temple University! Welcome to some of the most exciting years of your life! And, Welcome back Returning Students!!

Chances are that as a student entering college you are feeling excited, overwhelmed, and curious about your new school and home – probably all at the same time. As you arrive at school, I invite you to join us for Lutheran Episcopal Campus Ministry. The LECM student group hopes that we can provide you with a community and source of support as you make the transition into college.

Our weekly meetings are a low-stress time to hang out with other college students just like yourself – other Temple students who share a similar faith commitment and wrestle with many of the same spiritual questions as you do. Many will be freshmen and women just like yourself! Some are Episcopal, others are Lutheran, and many more come from a variety of traditions. We invite you to join us for our weekly discussion and worship in the HGSAC.

College can also be stressful. Please know that we are always available to talk about everything from campus living issues to spiritual journeys. The Chaplain can even meet you on campus.

I hope that you will take the opportunity to visit our group. Things can get kind of hectic at the beginning of the year with moving to campus and we want to make sure we are able to keep you updated about what we are doing. May you have an exciting first year!
